Carolina Chocolate Drops w/ The Low Anthem @ The Bijou

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are an old-time string band based out of of Durham, NC. Formed only in 2005 the Drops have garnered major critical success in their short career. Taking lessons learned from Joe Thompson, an old-time fiddler from the Piedmont region of the Carolinas, the chocolate drops continue the string band tradition while adding new, modern twists, such as covering Blu Cantrell's "Hit 'em Up Style (Oops)." This year their album Genuine Negro Jig was nominated for a Grammy in the best traditional folk album category. Below is a video of the Drops at WDVX's Blue Plate Special.

Opening for The CCD's tonite will be the Low Anthem. Based out of Providence, RI, the four piece band gained the attention of Nonesuch records after self-releasing their third album, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, in 2008. Since then they have been busy touring and have recently been recording material for a new album due out in early 2011.
